Polish retail sales up in December: stats office

Retail sales in Poland rose 5.7 percent in December at constant prices compared with the same month a year earlier, the country’s Central Statistical Office (GUS) said on Thursday.

Sales of furniture, household appliances and consumer electronics increased by 13.6 percent in year-on-year terms, and those of pharmaceuticals and cosmetics went up by 6.6 percent.

Among other goods, sales of newspapers and books increased 6.7 percent, while sales of food, beverages and tobacco products decreased by 0.2 percent.

In terms of current prices, retail sales last month were 7.5 percent higher than in December 2018, the Central Statistical Office said.

In month-on-month terms, retail sales in December were 14.1 percent higher than in November, according to the statistics office.
