Fewer fatal road accidents in Poland’s winter school break

A total of 251 people have been killed in 2,506 accidents on Polish roads since the start of the country’s winter school holidays last month, police have said.

During the same period last year there were 70 fewer road accidents across Poland but 16 more deaths, state news agency PAP reported.

Many parents take their children skiing during Poland’s winter school holidays, while others send their offspring on organized trips to mountain resorts by coach.

Police usually step up safety checks, especially on coaches carrying children to the mountains.

The winter school break take places at different dates in various regions of the country.

The fist batch of children started their holidays on January 11 and the last batch on February 8. The holiday period ends on February 23.
