This year, blood has been in short supply since the coronavirus epidemic broke out.

Deputy Health Minister Janusz Cieszyński said: “The number of blood donors, which this year has fallen anyway because of the epidemic, is always lower in the summer months compared to other times… We appeal to people to donate blood.”

He added that blood donation points had measures in place to keep donors safe.

Public broadcaster Polish Radio’s IAR news agency reported that people planning to head to blood donation centres should phone in advance and read advice on the websites of such centres.
