Poland confirms 3,098 new coronavirus cases, 319 more deaths

Poland on Tuesday reported 3,098 new coronavirus infections and 319 more deaths, bringing the country's total number of cases during the pandemic to 2,838,180 and fatalities to 70,336.

Of the new cases confirmed on Tuesday, 426 were in the densely populated southern coal-mining region of Silesia.

Meanwhile, 389 new infections were reported in the central region of Mazowieckie, which includes the national capital Warsaw.

The western province of Wielkopolskie, which is home to the major city of Poznańhad the third-highest number of new infections confirmed by officials on Tuesday, at 304.

The latest deaths in Poland’s coronavirus outbreak are 235 people with pre-existing medical conditions and 84 who died directly because of COVID-19, the Polish health ministry said.

On Monday, Poland confirmed 22 deaths and 2,032 new coronavirus infections nationwide, compared with 147 deaths and 3,852 fresh cases a day earlier.

On April 8the country reported its highest daily toll of 954 deaths related to the coronavirus.

On April 1, the Polish health ministry confirmed 35,251 new single-day cases, the most since the pandemic hit the country more than a year ago.

Poland's first case of coronavirus infection was reported on March 4, 2020.

15,602 in hospitals, 111,931 quarantined

The health ministry announced on Tuesday morning that 15,602 COVID-19 patients were in hospitals nationwide, 1,959 of them on ventilators, with a further 117,931 people quarantined for possible coronavirus exposure.

Meanwhile, 2,580,245 people have now recovered from COVID-19 throughout the country, including 4,211 over the last 24 hours, the health ministry also said.
