The documents, which aim to facilitate travel, are to be introduced before the summer holiday season, Polish state news agency PAP reported.

People with such certificates will be able to show them to confirm they have been vaccinated against the coronavirus, have tested negative for COVID, or have recovered from the virus and so have immunity.

The document is being designed by EU lawmakers along with the European Commission and EU government negotiators, the Reuters news agency reported last week.

It added that Portugal, which holds the EU's rotating presidency, hopes for political agreement on the deal by the end of May to enable the certificate to be operational by June 21.

Poland has injected over 11.66 million first doses of COVID-19 vaccines, while 4.64 million people had been fully inoculated, the health ministry said on Tuesday.
