Poland reports 1,000 new coronavirus cases, 151 more deaths

Poland on Tuesday reported 1,000 new coronavirus infections and 151 more deaths, bringing the country's total number of cases during the pandemic to 2,867,187 and fatalities to 73,096.

Of the new cases confirmed on Tuesday, 138 were in the central region of Mazowieckie, which includes the national capital Warsaw.

Meanwhile, 121 new infections were reported in the densely populated southern coal-mining region of Silesia.

The western province of Wielkopolskie, which is home to the major city of Poznań, had the third-highest number of new infections confirmed by officials on Tuesday, at 114.

The latest deaths in Poland’s coronavirus outbreak are 110 people with pre-existing medical conditions and 41 who died directly because of COVID-19, the Polish health ministry said.

On Monday, Poland confirmed 17 deaths and 559 new coronavirus infections nationwide, compared with 46 deaths and 1,075 fresh cases a day earlier.

On April 8the country reported its highest daily toll of 954 deaths related to the coronavirus.

On April 1, the Polish health ministry confirmed 35,251 new single-day cases, the most since the pandemic hit the country more than a year ago.

Poland's first case of coronavirus infection was reported on March 4, 2020.

7,553 in hospitals, 81,603 quarantined

The health ministry announced on Tuesday morning that 7,553 COVID-19 patients were in hospitals nationwide, 990 of them on ventilators, with a further 81,603 people quarantined for possible coronavirus exposure.

Meanwhile, 2,629,626 people have now recovered from COVID-19 throughout the country, including 1,947 over the last 24 hours, the health ministry also said.
