Poland reports 123 new coronavirus cases, 26 more deaths

Poland on Tuesday reported 123 new coronavirus infections and 26 more deaths related to COVID-19, bringing the country's total number of cases during the pandemic to 2,879,811 and fatalities to 75,005.

Of the new cases confirmed on Tuesday, the most—20—were in the southwestern province of Dolnośląskie, which is home to the major city of Wrocław.

The latest deaths in Poland’s coronavirus outbreak are 17 people with pre-existing medical conditions and nine who died directly because of COVID-19, the Polish health ministry said.

On Monday, Poland confirmed no new deaths and 52 additional coronavirus infections nationwide, compared with five deaths and 71 fresh cases a day earlier.

On April 8the country reported its highest daily toll of 954 deaths related to the coronavirus.

On April 1, the Polish health ministry confirmed 35,251 new single-day cases, the most since the pandemic hit the country early last year.

Poland's first case of coronavirus infection was reported on March 4, 2020.

985 in hospitals, 72,255 quarantined

The Polish health ministry announced on Tuesday morning that 985 COVID-19 patients were in hospitals nationwide, 171 of them on ventilators, with a further 72,255 people quarantined for possible coronavirus exposure.

Meanwhile, 2,651,759 people have now recovered from COVID-19 throughout the country, the health ministry also said.
