Poland reports 108 new coronavirus cases, 4 more deaths

Poland on Friday reported 108 new coronavirus infections and four more deaths related to COVID-19, bringing the country's total number of cases during the pandemic to 2,881,948 and fatalities to 75,235.

Of the new cases confirmed on Fridaythe most—20—were in the southern coal mining region of Silesia.

The latest deaths in Poland’s coronavirus outbreak are two people with pre-existing medical conditions and two who died directly because of COVID-19, the health ministry said.

On ThursdayPoland confirmed nine new deaths and 126 new coronavirus infections nationwide, compared with three deaths and 124 fresh cases a day earlier.

On April 8the country reported its highest daily toll of 954 deaths related to the coronavirus.

On April 1, the Polish health ministry confirmed 35,251 new single-day cases, the most since the pandemic hit the country early last year.

Poland's first case of coronavirus infection was reported on March 4, 2020.

324 in hospitals, 84,546 quarantined

The Polish health ministry announced on Friday morning that 324 COVID-19 patients were in hospitals nationwide, 52 of them on ventilators, with a further 84,546 people quarantined for possible coronavirus exposure.

Meanwhile, 2,653,172 people have now recovered from COVID-19 throughout the country, the health ministry also said.

Officials have warned that the number of COVID-19 infections in the country could rise in the coming weeks as the Delta variant of the coronavirus begins to spread more quickly.
