But Poland’s Krzysztof Szczerski, a senior presidential aide, withdrew his candidacy for the EU post on Monday.
“I have never dealt with agriculture and it’s not the portfolio I discussed with President [von der Leyen] when we first met. Therefore I think it’s only fair to give this position to someone else,” Szczerski said.
