“Thanksgiving isn’t traditionally celebrated in Poland, but that doesn’t mean Polish food can’t end up on your dinner table,” the Polish embassy in Washington said in a tweet on the eve of the holiday.
It posted a link to a set of Polish dishes that it said could be enjoyed by Polish Americans “during their yearly, turkey-filled family reunions.”
The “10 Polish dishes that will complement your Thanksgiving dinner” include Polish cabbage and mushrooms (kapusta z grzybami), pumpkin potato dumplings (kopytka dyniowe), Polish fried beets (buraczki zasmażane), Polish vegetable salad (sałatka warzywna), and a baked potato dish known as babka ziemniaczana.
Also, stewed pears (kompot z gruszek) could make a fine Thanksgiving drink, according to the Polish Your Kitchen website.
Americans celebrate Thanksgiving annually on the fourth Thursday of November with a feast of turkey, pie and other holiday goodies.
Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump this week “pardoned" two North Carolina turkeys, named Bread and Butter, to spare them from becoming a Thanksgiving meal, Fox News reported.
President George H.W. Bush established the annual turkey pardon tradition in 1989 by sparing a 50-pound bird, the US broadcaster said on its website.
