The planned new laws come as part of the European Union’s Green Deal, which aims to make the EU the first climate-neutral continent by 2050 through eliminating greenhouse gas emissions, public broadcaster Polish Radio reported.
Wojciechowski said that the deal would mean higher production costs for farmers.
"For a higher contribution to the Green Deal we need a higher contribution to the agriculture budget,” Wojciechowski said in a speech at a conference in Brussels on Tuesday.
“The European Green Deal is expecting agriculture to be more environmentally-friendly and that it will reduce its environmental footprint caused by artificial fertilizers and pesticides, at the same time improving animal welfare,” Wojciechowski added.
He also said that he would seek to have agricultural subsidies which are equal for all member states in the bloc.
