“Poland considers as illegal the so-called ‘presidential elections’ held on Georgian territory of Abkhazia by separatist authorities in Sokhumi on March 22, 2020, and we do not recognize their results,” the Polish foreign ministry has said in a statement.

It added: “We strongly condemn all actions undertaken at the occupied territories without the consent of the government in Tbilisi.”

In its statement, the foreign ministry in Warsaw reiterated Poland's “full support for the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Georgia within its internationally recognised borders that were violated through the Russian military aggression in August 2008.”

The statement also called on Russia “to fulfill all obligations resulting from the peace agreement of 2008, including withdrawal of military troops and assurance of unhindered access of the humanitarian assistance to those regions.”

In August 2018, Poland, Lithuania, Latvia and Ukraine issued a joint statement on the 10th anniversary of "the Russian military aggression against Georgia.” In it, they called on Russia to "reverse its illegal recognition of the so-called independence" of the Georgian regions of Abkhazia and South Ossetia.
