Speaking after a video conference with his counterparts from other NATO members, Jacek Czaputowicz said: "Disinformation and the threat being posed by Russia during the coronavirus pandemic are worrying NATO."

He added that Russia was “using the crisis” for its own purposes and that the Kremlin’s “disinformation activities” and propaganda were “very clear.”

“This leaves members of the Alliance worried,” Czaputowicz told a news conference.

Czaputowicz also said that the allies “emphasised the need for cooperation and unity in the face of disinformation, especially from Russia.”

He added that “Russia invariably poses a threat in the Baltic Sea, the Black Sea, Ukraine and Syria.”

Poland’s foreign ministry last month summoned Russia's ambassador to protest at an “absurd” claim that Warsaw had refused to let Russian planes carrying aid to virus-struck Italy pass through Polish airspace, according to a report.

A Polish security official last month warned that Russia was seeking to destabilise other countries while trying to boost its own international profile amid the virus crisis.
