In an interview aired by Polish private television broadcaster TVN24 on Thursday, Georgette Mosbacher said she felt safe working in Poland amid the global coronavirus epidemic.

Speaking to anchor Piotr Kraśko, Mosbacher said: “I’ve been here since before the lockdown and I think that the Polish government is doing a great job.”

Amid grim data arriving from across the pond, she added: “And, quite frankly, I feel safer here than I would feel if I were in New York.”

A total of 10,759 people have tested positive for the coronavirus in Poland, with 463 deaths from the COVID-19 respiratory illness so far, public health officials announced on Friday morning.

Meanwhile, the U.S. death toll from the highly contagious SARS-CoV-2 virus was expected to reach 50,000 on Friday, doubling in 10 days and the highest in the world, according to the Reuters news agency.

About 875,000 Americans have tested positive for COVID-19, and on average about 2,000 have died every day this month, according to a Reuters tally cited on Friday.
