Poland’s Lublin named European Youth Capital 2023

The eastern Polish city of Lublin has beaten international competition to be named European Youth Capital 2023.

The designation comes after an international panel of judges decided that the Polish city would offer "the most interesting programme of activities in Europe with its unique energy" and ideas to inspire young people, according to local officials.

The number of planned events and the value of allocated funds testify to the scale of the project, City Hall says.

“We have every reason to celebrate,” said Mayor Krzysztof Żuk. “Owing to the efforts and commitment of many, we will implement a varied programme, full of activities that will make young people’s dreams, passions and aspirations come true.”

Lublin was selected European Youth Capital 2023 over cities including Romania’s Baia Mare, Turkey’s Izmir, Russia’s Kazan and Ukraine’s Lviv, according to the lublin.eu website.

The European Youth Capital title is awarded to cities for a period of one year by the European Youth Forum.
