Rau will be joined at the talks by his Hungarian counterpart Péter Szijjártó, the Czech Republic's Jan Lipavsky, Slovak Deputy Foreign Minister Ingrid Brockova, and Turkey’s top diplomat Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu.
The Polish foreign ministry said in a statement that the meeting would focus on issues such as illegal migration, Afghanistan, the Western Balkans, relations between the European Union and Turkey, and Ankara’s cooperation with the V4 group of Central European countries.
It follows Çavuşoğlu’s visit to Warsaw in early October when Rau hailed Turkey as Poland’s “leading economic partner in the Middle East.”
At the time, the Polish foreign minister voiced hope that bilateral trade would soon reach EUR 8 billion a year, while his Turkish counterpart mentioned USD 10 billion as a target, Polish state news agency PAP reported.
While in Warsaw, Çavuşoğlu also offered Turkey’s help in stemming illegal migration from Arab countries through Belarus, including by sharing Ankara’s experience in “combating human traffickers,” the PAP news agency reported.
The Visegrad Group, or V4, is a regional cooperation platform that brings together Poland, Hungary, the Czech Republic and Slovakia.
