The Rzeczpospolita daily newspaper said the conservative government in Warsaw wanted to bring Poland's 2020 budget out of deficit for the first time since 1989 in an unprecedented move despite hefty social spending.

The report comes as Cabinet ministers are expected to discuss the 2020 budget at a meeting on Tuesday.

Officials approached by Poland's PAP news agency have declined to either confirm or deny the report ahead of the Cabinet meeting.

The government has until September 30 to come up with the final draft of the country’s budget for next year and submit it to parliament.

The Polish economy is expected to grow 3.7 percent and inflation is seen averaging at 2.5 percent next year under a set of budget targets adopted by the country's government earlier this year.

The Polish economy grew 4.4 percent in the second quarter of this year, the country’s Central Statistical Office (GUS) said this month in a flash estimate.
