Polish retail sales up in August: stats office

Retail sales in Poland rose 4.4 percent in August at constant prices compared with the same month last year, the country’s Central Statistical Office (GUS) said on Friday.

Sales of furniture, household appliances and consumer electronics increased by 11.6 percent in year-on-year terms, and those of clothing and shoes went up by 7.2 percent.

Among other goods, sales of pharmaceuticals and cosmetics increased 6.8 percent, while sales of food, beverages and tobacco products rose by 1.5 percent.

In terms of current prices, retail sales last month were 6 percent higher than in August last year, the Central Statistical Office said.

In month-on-month terms, retail sales in August were 0.1 percent higher than in July, according to the statistics office.
