But the survey by advisory firm Grant Thornton said that Poland has made great strides in the last two years.

It said that Poles wages’ have been boosted by economic growth, while salaries in this country have been increasing at a faster rate than in many other European Union countries.

Tomasz Wróblewski of Grant Thornton said: "We can say that we are a ‘European tiger.’”

The average monthly salary in the European Union is nearly EUR 3,000 (USD 3,327, PLN 12,841), public broadcaster Polish Radio’s IAR news agency reported.

Slovaks, Latvians, Lithuanians, Romanians and Bulgarians earn less than Poles, IAR added.

Average wages in Poland rose 5.9 percent in October compared with the same month last year, the country’s Central Statistical Office said last month.

The average gross Polish monthly wage in October was PLN 5,213.27 (EUR 1,214, USD 1,346), the state-run statistics agency reported.
