In 1999 and 2002, the company opened its European conventional & hybrid powertrain manufacturing centres in two localities in Poland.

It has so far invested more than PLN 4.5 billion and created over 2,000 jobs in its facilities in Wałbrzych and Jelcz-Laskowice in southwestern Poland.

One of the employees who has been with the company from the very beginning is Dariusz Mikołajczak.

As of January 1, he was promoted to Chairman of Toyota Motor Manufacturing Poland to replace Eiji Takeichi.

That marked the first time a Polish manager was promoted to such a high-ranking position within the Toyota corporation.

"We started out as a quite small company, hired around 350 people, and finally we expanded to over 2,500 people," Mikołajczak told Radio Poland's Danuta Isler.

He added: “The hybrid transaxle built in Poland is proof that the headquarters see the Polish operations as very effective."
