“The Polish economy continues to surprise foreign analysts in a positive way,” Morawiecki wrote on Facebook.

He added: “Sincere congratulations to Polish entrepreneurs - thanks to your hard work, Poland is surprising Europe and the world! We want the prosperity of Polish families to continue to grow.”

Poland’s Central Statistical Office, which uses a different methodology to the European Union's Eurostat statistics agency, said earlier this week that unemployment rose to 5.5 percent in January from 5.2 percent in December.

Finance Minister Tadeusz Kościński said earlier this month that the Polish economy had grown 4 percent over the whole of last year.
