The figure was in line with an earlier estimate by the country’s labour ministry.

There were around 1,028,000 people without jobs across the nation at the end of August, compared with 1,029,500 a month earlier, according to the state-run statistics agency.

Labour Minister Marlena Maląg said earlier this month that the Polish labour market appeared to be stabilizing after a period of lockdown and restrictions affecting the economy.

Maląg said last week that some 6 million jobs had been saved throughout the country thanks to measures including a massive relief and stimulus package that aimed to shield the economy from the coronavirus.

Poland's jobless rate is expected to rise to 8 percent at the end of this year, from 5.2 percent at the end of 2019, under a proposed revision of the country's 2020 budget.

According to the European Union’s statistics agency, which uses a different methodology, unemployment in Poland was a modest 3.2 percent in July, the second-lowest rate in the 27-nation bloc.
