The country’s exports from the beginning of January to the end of August totaled EUR 147.7 billion, while imports were worth EUR 141.4 billion, the state-run statistics agency said on Thursday.

Poland’s largest export markets during this period were Germany, the Czech Republic and Britain, while Germany, China and Russia were the country’s largest import markets.

Poland in mid-March temporarily closed its borders to non-residents in a move to curb the spread of the coronavirus and then extended the restriction four times.

The country’s borders stayed open to the movement of goods.

Poland reopened its borders with its European Union neighbours in mid-June.

Poland ended last year with a foreign trade surplus of EUR 1.2 billion, according to revised data released by the Central Statistical Office in the summer.
