The European Commission predicts that only Lithuania, Ireland and Sweden will see a smaller contraction in GDP in 2020.

The Commission said in its latest forecast that it expects the Polish economy to rebound in 2021, expanding by 3.3 percent.

The Polish economy contracted 8.2 percent in the second quarter of this year, after expanding by 2 percent in the first quarter, according to the country’s Central Statistical Office.

Poland on Thursday reported a record 27,143 new coronavirus infections, the highest daily figure since the epidemic hit the country in March.

The government has announced a swathe of new restrictions aiming to curb the virus.
