The council decided on a string of rate cuts last year amid a coronavirus epidemic which has dented the economy.

Last March, in its first change to interest rates in five years, the Monetary Policy Council lowered the reference rate from 1.5 percent to 1.0 percent.

Poland on Wednesday reported 6,802 new coronavirus infections and 421 more deaths, bringing its total number of cases during the pandemic to 1,527,016 and fatalities to 37,897.
