A new study by the Polish Economic Institute (PIE) shows that Poland produced an average of 1.12 million bicycles annually between 2015 and 2019.

In 2020, the number dropped to around 750,000, due to disruption in delivery chains caused by the coronavirus pandemic, the report said.

Data from the first months of 2021 suggest a similar number of bicycles will be produced in 2021, PIE added.

According to the institute, bike production in Poland is mainly hindered by difficulties in access to bike components from China.

The new report also said that the coronavirus pandemic has made the demand for new bicycles grow significantly all over the world. They are seen as a safe means of transportation that allows for keeping social distancing rules.

45 percent of bicycles produced in Poland are exported to Germany and 13 percent to the Czech Republic, the study by PIE also said.
