Poland keeps interest rates intact

The Polish central bank's rate-setting Monetary Policy Council left interest rates unchanged on Wednesday, keeping the reference rate at a historically low 0.1 percent.

The panel last year delivered a string of rate cuts to help the economy weather the coronavirus crisis.

In March 2020, in its first change to interest rates in five years, the Monetary Policy Council lowered the reference rate from 1.5 percent to 1 percent.

Poland on Wednesday reported 533 new coronavirus infections and 11 more deaths related to COVID-19, bringing the country's total number of cases during the pandemic to 2,891,602 and fatalities to 75,403.
