More homes completed in Poland

Despite the COVID-19 pandemic, builders in Poland completed 4.1 percent more homes in the first eight months of this year than in the same period in 2020, the country’s Central Statistical Office (GUS) has reported.

Around 142,500 housing units were completed nationwide between the start of January and the end of August, the office said.

It added that the number of housing starts from January to August, at around 194,500, was 37.8 percent higher than in the same period last year.

Meanwhile, overall output in Poland’s construction-and-assembly sector rose by 10.2 percent in August in year-on-year terms, while increasing by 3.2 percent month on month, the state-run statistics agency also reported.

The Polish economy grew 11.1 percent in the second quarter of this year, after contracting 0.9 percent in the first quarter, the country’s Central Statistical Office (GUS) said last month in a preliminary estimate.
