Polish inflation at 7.7% in November: flash estimate

Inflation in Poland stood at 7.7 percent in year-on-year terms in November, the country’s Central Statistical Office (GUS) said in a flash estimate on Tuesday.

The reading marked the highest level this century and was 0.3 percentage points higher than forecast by economists polled by Poland’s PAP news agency.

In October, the prices of consumer goods and services in Poland were 6.8 percent higher than in the same month a year earlier, according to the Central Statistical Office.

In September, Poland's consumer price index stood at 5.9 percent, the statistics agency has said.

The Polish government last week unveiled a set of measures to tackle price hikes, dubbed "the anti-inflation shield" and worth a total of PLN 10 billion (EUR 2.1 billion). 

The Polish central bank’s Monetary Policy Council this month raised key interest rates for the second time since 2012 in a bid to tame inflation.
