July was the first month since Russia's invasion of its southern neighbour that Europe’s six largest countries offered Ukraine no new bilateral military commitments, the Politico news service reported on Thursday, citing new data from the Kiel Institute for the World Economy think tank.
The data may be a sign that, despite historic shifts in European defence policy — whereby once reluctant countries such as Germany and France now ship arms to Ukraine — military aid to Ukraine appears to be waning just as Kyiv launches a crucial counteroffensive, according to the politico.com website.
The fresh data, covering Britain, France, Germany, Spain, Italy and Poland, illustrates a point that major European powers may be running out of steam and are not keeping up with the military aid coming from the United States, Politico reported.
