Polish inflation at 16.1% in August: stats office

Inflation in Poland stood at 16.1 percent in year-on-year terms in August, the country’s statistics office reported on Thursday.

The reading was in line with a flash estimate released by the state-run Statistics Poland (GUS) agency at the end of last month.

In Julythe prices of consumer goods and services in Poland were 15.6 percent higher than in the same month a year earlier, according to the state-run Statistics Poland (GUS) agency.

In JunePoland's consumer price index stood at 15.5 percent, Statistics Poland reported.

The Polish central bank’s Monetary Policy Council this month raised key interest rates for the 11th consecutive time in a bid to tame inflation.
