Over 5,000 officers were taking part in the crackdown on speeding, which is one of the main contributing factors in road accidents, public broadcaster Polish Radio’s IAR news agency reported.

According to Radosław Kobryś from the traffic department of police headquarters, some 27,000 collisions, in which a total of 2,177 people died, were caused by drivers in Poland last year alone.

“Fans of fast driving can test their abilities on professional racing tracks,” he added.

Last month, 644 people were killed and over 8,100 injured on Polish roads during this year’s summer school break.
