Influenza expert Professor Lidia Brydak of the National Institute of Public Health said that the figure of over a million was high, given that it was still early in the flu season.
The flu season runs from the beginning of October to the end of March.
Last season, more than 4 million people fell ill with influenza and similar viruses in Poland, public broadcaster Polish Radio’s IAR news agency reported last month.
Meanwhile, only some 4 percent of the population decided to vaccinate themselves, according to the news agency.
Experts say that flu jabs are the most effective way of avoiding influenza.
