The district is regarded by many in Poland as an example of drab architectural uniformity informed by a Soviet-era ideology that has been deservedly relegated to the dustbin of history.
But the piece in The Guardian praised Nowa Huta’s “peaceful tree-lined avenues,” adding that the neighbourhood was “a masterclass in socialist realism.”
Another reader’s tip in The Guardian praised the Śródmieście, or downtown, district in the south-western Polish city of Wrocław.
The British daily’s fascination with Poland doesn’t end there. It recently named Warsaw’s Powiśle district among “10 of the coolest neighbourhoods in Europe.”
