Stanisław Bigos, a former resistance fighter and fireman, survived the respiratory illness after a course of treatment at a clinical hospital run by Poland’s interior ministry, public broadcaster Polish Radio’s IAR news agency has reported.
A spokeswoman for the hospital, Iwona Sołtys, shared the news in a social media post on Monday.
Polish Deputy Interior and Administration Minister Błażej Poboża said on Twitter: "Great news from our hospital! Greetings to the patient! Congratulations to the doctors!"
A total of 12,089 people have tested positive for the COVID-19 disease in Poland, with 570 deaths from the coronavirus and 2,655 patients who have recovered so far, public health officials said on Tuesday morning.
