Born into an aristocratic family in Biała Cerkiew (now Bila Tserkva in Ukraine) in 1876, she lost her sight at the age of 22.
From that time onwards, she devoted herself to the work for the blind, becoming a pioneer of a modern system of care for those without sight.
She founded the Institute for the Blind in Laski, near Warsaw, which offers education and vocational training for visually-impaired children and youth, preparing them to lead an independent life in society.
Mother Czacka was considered a living saint. She died in 1961. Her beatification process began in 1987.
