Shevah Weiss’s funeral took place on Sunday on Mount Herzl (Har ha-Zikaron) in Jerusalem.

A Holocaust survivor, the former envoy was hailed for his role in advancing ties between Poland and Israel.

“The death of Shevah Weiss is a great loss for Polish-Israeli relations,” Polish president Andrzej Duda wrote on Twitter on Saturday.

“A wonderful man, Jew, Israeli patriot who loved and respected Poland”, Duda added.

Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki described Weiss as "a friend of Poland" and "a good and wise man, who will be greatly missed."

“He was an Israeli patriot but one who loved and understood Poland as well….That last generation of  Israelis who were still born in Poland, who remembered Poland and who considered Poland their second home is departing this life,” said Magdalena Gawin, head of the Pilecki Institute, a research institution focused on Poland’s turbulent 20th century history.
