Poles reported record trust in their military and strong confidence in NATO, while skepticism toward the European Union rose, a new IBRiS poll for the Polish Press Agency showed.

Trust in the Polish Armed Forces reached 93.9% in September 2025, the highest level in nearly a decade of IBRiS measurements. The share declaring they “definitely trust” the army was almost 38%, while combined distrust stood at 2.6%. Confidence has climbed steadily from 69% in 2016 and increased by 2.2 percentage points over the past year.

NATO also strengthened its standing, with 75.7% expressing trust — up 1.7 points since October 2024. Despite past swings, from 60.7% in 2016 to 81.9% in 2022, the alliance remains widely viewed as central to national security.

“The results are a clear illustration of how the current geopolitical situation is redefining the hierarchy of trust in Poland,” said IBRiS pollster communications director Kamil Smogorzewski.

“The army and NATO are breaking records because they are seen as a foundation and a guarantee of security.”

By contrast, trust in the European Union fell 4.4 points over the year to 50.3% in September 2025, from 54.7% in October 2024. Overall distrust toward the EU rose 11.1 points to 43.8%, the highest level in recent years, with the share who “rather do not trust” increasing from 14.3% to 23.4%.

“The decline in trust in the European Union may indicate that its role — perceived as more economic and political — is losing importance amid more urgent challenges,” Smogorzewski added, noting rising polarization and skepticism.
