Tennis: Poland’s Kubot into semis at Washington Open

Poland’s Łukasz Kubot and Brazil’s Marcelo Melo have made it through to the semi-finals of the men’s doubles at the ATP Washington Open tennis tournament.

Kubot and Melo, the no. 2 seeds, on Thursday beat Australia’s Matthew Ebden and America’s Nicholas Monroe 6-2, 5-7, 10-2.

Next up for the Polish-Brazilian duo will be the winners of a match pitting South Africa’s Raven Klaasen and New Zealand’s Michael Venus against British brothers Andy and Jamie Murray.

Earlier, Poland’s Hubert Hurkacz was eliminated in the second round of the singles at the US tournament.

Kubot and Melo were in 2017 named the men’s doubles team of the year by the International Tennis Federation (ITF).
