Poland’s Paweł Fajdek has claimed the gold in the men’s hammer throw, while Nowicki initially finished fourth in the event in Qatar on Wednesday, behind France's Quentin Bigot and Hungary’s Bence Halasz.
But “the Polish team then lodged a protest, claiming Halasz had touched the ground outside the circle on his first attempt,” the International Association of Athletics Federations, the world governing body for track and field, said on its website.
It added: “The jury of appeal concluded that irregularities in the conduct of the competition disadvantaged Nowicki and, in fairness to both athletes, decided to award bronze medals to both Nowicki and Halasz.”

After six days of competition at Doha, Poland was sixth in the medal table, with one gold, one silver and two bronzes.
Piotr Lisek won the bronze for Poland in the men’s pole vault on Tuesday, and Joanna Fiodorow took the silver in the women’s hammer throw three days earlier.
The World Athletics Championships are being held in the Qatari capital from September 27 to October 6.
Poland’s Nowicki in August last year won gold and Fajdek took silver in the men’s hammer throw at the European Athletics Championships in Berlin.
