Kubot and Melo, the top seeds, lost Sunday’s match in the Austrian capital 4-6, 7-6, 5-10 to America’s Rajeev Ram and Britain’s Joe Salisbury.

The American-British duo claimed their second Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) Tour title after an hour and 47 minutes, saving two break points.

Kubot, however, has moved up one notch to No. 5 in the men’s doubles in the latest ATP world rankings.

Polish player Hubert Hurkacz has fallen from No. 35 to No. 37 in the men’s singles, while his countryman Kamil Majchrzak has moved up a notch to No. 90.

Kubot and Melo earlier this month reached the final of the Shanghai Masters tournament in China, but failed to defend the title they had won there last year.

Meanwhile, the Polish-Brazilian doubles team has already qualified for the season-ending ATP Finals in London.

This prestigious tournament, to be held by the Association of Tennis Professionals from November 10 to 17, will feature the world's eight best male singles players and doubles teams of the season.

Kubot and Melo are set to play in the ATP Finals as a team for the third year in a row.

The Pole and the Brazilian were in 2017 named the men’s doubles team of the year by the International Tennis Federation (ITF).

This year, Kubot and Melo have claimed one ATP doubles title so far, winning the Winston-Salem Open tournament in the US state of North Carolina in August.
