The second-seeded Polish-Brazilian duo lost 3-6, 4-6 to fifth-seeds Raven Klaasen of South Africa and Michael Venus of New Zealand on Tuesday.

The upset came after Kubot and Melo overpowered Croatia’s Ivan Dodig and Slovakia’s Filip Polasek 4-6, 6-4, 10-5 in their opening encounter at the ATP Finals on Sunday.

Kubot and Melo are set to take on fourth-seeded American Rajeev Ram and Britain’s Joe Salisbury in their next match in the British capital on Thursday.

The season-ending ATP Finals tournament is being held in London by the Association of Tennis Professionals from November 10 to 17.

The prestigious event features the world's eight best male singles players and doubles teams of the season.

Kubot and Melo are playing in the ATP Finals as a doubles team for the third year in a row.

The Pole and the Brazilian were in 2017 named the men’s doubles team of the year by the International Tennis Federation (ITF).

This year, Kubot and Melo claimed one ATP doubles title, winning the Winston-Salem Open tournament in the US state of North Carolina in August.

The Pole and the Brazilian last month reached the final of the men’s doubles at the Vienna Open. They also played in the final of the Shanghai Masters tournament in China.
