An ultra-marathon athlete has set a record by running up and down Poland’s highest peak nine times in 24 hours.

Roman Ficek started his endurance feat on Thursday afternoon, and covered over 63 kilometres in total, with only short breaks in a mountain shelter.

Nobody had attempted a challenge of that kind before on the Rysy peak.

The crest in southern Poland’s Tatra mountains straddles the country’s border with Slovakia and is 2,500 metres (8,200 feet) tall.
