The Pole, who is defending her title in Paris, will next face the winner of a match pitting Sweden's Rebecca Peterson against American Shelby Rogers in the women’s singles competition in the French capital.

The rising Polish tennis star, who turned 20 on Monday, earlier this month won the women's singles at the Italian Open clay-court tournament in Rome.

Świątek, coached by countryman Piotr Sierzputowski, is ranked world No. 9 by the Women's Tennis Association (WTA).

In October, she won the 2020 French Open, claiming her maiden Grand Slam title and becoming the first Pole to lift a Grand Slam singles trophy.
