Swimming: 5th-place finish for Poland’s Wasick at Tokyo Olympics

Poland’s Katarzyna Wasick has finished fifth in the women’s 50 metres freestyle at the Olympics in Tokyo in what was one of the best showings for a Polish swimmer at this year's Summer Games.

Emma McKeon of Australia won the women’s 50m freestyle gold on Sunday, the final day of swimming in Tokyo, with a new Olympic record of 23.81 seconds, while Sweden's Sarah Sjöström claimed the silver, with a time of 24.07.

Denmark's Pernille Blume finished third in 24.21 to secure the bronze.

Ranomi Kromowidjojo of the Netherlands was fourth, with a time of 24.30, while Wasick touched in at 24.32, tying for fifth place with China's Wu Qingfeng.

Wasick in May took the silver in the women’s 50 metres freestyle at the European Aquatics Championships in Budapest.

She at the time clocked in at 24.17, setting a new national record.
