Swimming: World championship gold for Poland’s Kawęcki

The 30-year-old Pole touched in at 1:48.68 to win the event in the United Arab Emirates, while Shaine Casas of the United States finished second in 1:48.81.

Christian Diener of Germany came in third, clocking a time of 1:48.97.

Kawęcki's gold marked the first medal for Poland at the 2021 World Short-Course Swimming Championships, which began in Abu Dhabi on December 16 and run until Tuesday.
