This will be the 41-year-old’s eighth match as a referee this Champions League season.

But the game will mark the first time any Pole has officiated a Champions League semifinal, according to the Polish Football Association (PZPN).

Marciniak will be assisted by Polish linesmen Paweł Sokolnicki and Tomasz Listkiewicz at Anfield on Wednesday night.

Meanwhile, Poland’s Tomasz Kwiatkowski and Bartosz Frankowski will be the video assistant referees for the match, according to the polskieradio24.pl website.

Marciniak is on track to be selected to referee matches during this year's World Cup in Qatar, the sport.onet.pl website reported.
