Top elite tower runners as well as several hundred amateur runners, celebrities and firefighters conquered the 37-floor office building in the heart of the Polish capital.

The annual Rondo 1 tower run, however, is more than just a sports competition.

Since the first edition of the event in 2011, it has supported the SOS Children's Villages Association (SOS Wioski Dziecięce) in Poland by donating all income from entry fees to an SOS children's village in the eastern town of Kraśnik.

This year, the fundraising part of the event was even more important because the Kraśnik SOS children's village has welcomed a large group of children and guardians from war-torn Ukraine.

"This is my second time running, but I am sure not the last one," actress Anna Dereszowska, one of the faces behind the SOS Wioski Dziecięce project, told Radio Poland's Danuta Isler.

"I don't remember my result from the first run, but for me it is not about running for time; it is running for the SOS Children's Villages Association," Dereszowska added.
