The tour, one of the longest in the ensemble’s history, marks the centenary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Poland and Japan.
It opens on October 19 in Takasaki, the city which will host the Polish Olympic team during next year’s Summer Games.
The Polish ensemble will give a total of 30 concerts in 18 Japanese cities, including Hiroshima, Kyoto, Osaka, Sapporo and Yokohama.
The tour ends in Tokyo on November 20.
The Śląsk ensemble will perform a selection of Polish national and folk dances as well as songs. As a special gesture to Japanese audiences, it will sing two songs in Japanese: the Japanese song Jidai and the popular 19th-century Polish song Szła dzieweczka (A Young Girl Walked to the Forest).
The Śląsk Song and Dance Ensemble was founded in 1953. It is based in the village of Koszęcin in Poland’s southern Silesia region.
