The city’s popular American Film Festival is due to open on November 5 and run until November 11, offering 69 productions that have never before been seen by Polish audiences.

The event, now in its 10th year, aims to present the full spectrum of American filmmaking, including features, documentaries and experimental movies, in addition to work by independent filmmakers.

This year's festival will open with The Irishman, the latest offering from director Martin Scorsese, starring Al Pacino and Robert De Niro.

Meanwhile, the last day of the festival will see a screening of Marriage Story by Oscar nominated filmmaker Noah Baumbach, starring Scarlett Johansson and Adam Driver.

Festival-goers will be able to catch a glimpse of some 30 American filmmakers this year, according to organisers. Mingling with the crowd will be familiar names such as actor and director Mark Webber and film producer Jay Van Hoy, both of whom will receive an award recognising their achievements in American indie cinema.

Meanwhile, Ari Aster, the director behind Hereditary and Midsommar, is expected to visit Wrocław as the festival's special guest.
